How to Export Your PG&E Green Button Hourly Interval Data

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) provides customers access to their energy usage data through the Green Button program. This allows you to download detailed hourly interval data for analysis. Follow these steps to export your data:

 


 

Step 1: Log in to Your PG&E Account

  1. Go to the PG&E website.

  2. Click Sign In at the top right corner.

  3. Enter your username and password, then click Sign In.

 


 

Step 2: Navigate to the Green Button Data Download Page

  1. Once logged in, go to the Energy Usage Details section.

    • You can also go directly to PG&E’s Green Button page.

  2. Look for a tab or section labeled Green Button Download or Download My Data.

 


 

Step 3: Select Your Data Preferences

  1. Choose the Service Address (if you have multiple properties).

  2. Select the Date Range for the data you want to export.

    • Select the past 12 months or as much data as PG&E allows.

    • Note: If you recently changed your PG&E rate plan/tariff, you will only receive data from the date of the change onward.

  3. Choose the Data Format:

    • CSV (Comma-Separated Values) – Easy to open in Excel or Google Sheets.

    • XML – For structured data use in advanced applications.

  4. For hourly interval data, ensure you select Hourly or Interval Data (not just daily totals).

 


 

Step 4: Download Your Data

  1. Click on Download Green Button Data or Export.

  2. The file will be saved to your computer (usually in the Downloads folder).

 


 

Step 5: Open and Analyze Your Data

  • If you downloaded a CSV file, you can open it in:

    • Microsoft Excel

    • Google Sheets

    • Any spreadsheet application

  • If you downloaded an XML file, you may need an XML viewer or data analysis tool.
